PPL Corporation (NYSE: PPL) elected Phoebe A. Wood, an executive with three decades of international, financial and operational management experience to the company’s board of directors. Ms. Wood is currently the principal of investment firm CompaniesWood and prior to that was Chief Financial Officer of Brown-Forman Corporation. Phoebe is a recipient of OnBoard’s Lettie Pate Whitehead Evans award for outstanding board service and on OnBoard’s Advocates List.
The 2018 OnBoard Development Group class will accept up to 10 women who are board ready for private or public for-profit boards. The six monthly sessions, starting in April, prepare the participants to raise their visibility for board candidacy. Past participant Terri Johdahl, CEO of CAB Incorporated, said: “You really do an awesome job on (OBDG)…What a wonderful service you are providing for aspiring women board members”. Application deadline is March 28, 2018 but early submission is recommended as the seats will be filled as qualified participants are accepted. More information and application form.

The next OnBoard event is lunch on March 14th, on the topic of Demystifying Shareholder Activism: What Opportunities Come with It?” Patricia Lenkov who heads up Agility Executive Search will share her experience working with some of the world’s leading activist investors recruiting board directors for activist slates. She will give her view about this as an avenue to board opportunities for women. She is also a Strategic Partner of The Koblentz Group collaborating to resolve their clients’ most sensitive board recruitment and boardroom governance matters. The OnBoard Executive Leadership Honor Roll recognizes women who are in executive leadership positions. It is awarded annually to 3 Georgia based women leaders to highlight OnBoard’s mission to increase the number of women in executive leadership. An honor roll honoree is a Georgia based woman in a significant leadership role within her organization. She is a role model of career achievement and is building the credentials that place her in the pipeline, either now or in the future, for corporate board membership. The 2017 honorees are:

J. C. PENNEY COMPANY, INC. (NYSE:JCP) announced that they elected Wonya Lucas, CEO of Public Broadcasting Atlanta to the board of directors. Synovus Financial Corp.(NYSE:SNV) elected Diana M. Murphy to the board. Ms. Murphy is the Managing Director of Rocksolid Holdings, LLC, a private equity firm focused on small businesses and real estate in the Southeast.
The 2017-2018 Advocates List Campaign is now underway. If you want to be on the list published in November 2017, see the attached information. Advocates are women and men who support OnBoard’s mission at a leadership level ($250) and are listed by name in publications, the website and recognized at events over the 12 months November 2017 to October 2018.
United Health Group (NYSE: UNH) named Dr. Valerie Montgomery Rice to its board. Dr. Rice is president and dean of Morehouse School of Medicine. Previously she was executive vice president of the medical school.
Atlanta Metro Chamber CEO Hala Moddelmog joined the board of Lamb Weston Holdings, Inc. (NYSE: LW). She also serves on the board of FleetCor Technologies, Inc. (NYSE:FLT). Hala is active with OnBoard as a member of the Advocates List.
Intercontinental Exchange, Inc. (NYSE:ICE) elected two new women to the board bringing the total to three women board members out of eleven total. Ann Cairns, President International Market for MasterCard and Duriya Farooqui, Executive Director of Atlanta Committee for Progress joined the board earlier this year.
